Guests often ask whether the Gautrain makes a furnished stay in Sandton or Rosebank easier. It can be useful for airport and inter-station travel, but an area name is not a door-to-door route. Start with the exact residence, the places you need to reach and the times you expect to travel. Then use the current official planner before choosing accommodation.

Begin with the exact residence address

Sandton Stay has two residences at The Terrace, 25 Minerva Avenue in Glenadrienne, Sandton; The Monroe at 39 Sturdee Avenue in Rosebank; and The Madison at 45 Hamilton Avenue in Hurlingham. These are separate addresses with different road and public-transport connections. A general promise that a property is “in Sandton” or “in Rosebank” is not enough to plan a commute.

Put each exact address into the official Gautrain trip planner together with the office, appointment or venue you will visit. Check the outward and return journeys at realistic times. If the stay lasts several weeks, test the route for both weekday and weekend needs before committing.

Understand what the airport service covers

Gautrain’s official network information describes an Airport Service linking O.R. Tambo International Airport with Sandton via Marlboro. Its commuter service connects Park, Rosebank, Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria Central and Hatfield. That makes the train a useful network-level option; it does not remove the need to plan the connection between a station and a residence.

After landing, allow time for baggage collection, the airport station and the final leg. If the train does not fit the flight time, luggage, mobility requirements or residence connection, Airports Company South Africa also publishes ground-transport guidance. Its O.R. Tambo public-transport page identifies the taxi and shuttle terminus and directs travellers seeking an accredited metered taxi to the airport information desk.

Orient yourself at Sandton and Rosebank stations

The station name and the residence address should remain separate in your plan. The official station pages give these orientation points:

StationOfficial station orientationWhat the guest should check
SandtonBeneath Rivonia Road, with pedestrian access at Rivonia Road and West Street and vehicle parkade access from West Street.Plan the full connection to The Terrace at 25 Minerva Avenue; do not assume precinct-to-station proximity.
RosebankBeneath Oxford Road between Baker Street and Tyrwhitt Avenue, with drop-off and parking facilities.Compare the exact route to The Monroe at 39 Sturdee Avenue and the times you will use it.
Hurlingham stayNo station relationship is claimed for The Madison.Build a road-transport plan from 45 Hamilton Avenue and compare it with your actual destinations.

Use the official Sandton Station information or Rosebank Station information for current entrances, parking and station notices.

Check schedules, fares and payment when you travel

Operating times, intervals, service notices, fares and products can change. Use the official planner on the travel date instead of relying on an old screenshot or a rate copied into an accommodation page. The Gautrain site publishes current schedules, a fare calculator and service information.

Gautrain’s current guidance allows passengers to use a contactless bank card or a Gautrain Card. Use the same payment card to enter and leave the applicable parts of the journey so the system can calculate the trip correctly. If you are considering a weekly or monthly product, check its current coverage and remember that train, bus and parking terms may differ.

Plan the first and last mile separately

A train journey is only complete when the guest can get from the station to the residence and from the residence to each daily destination. Gautrain publishes current bus and midi-bus route downloads for Sandton and Rosebank. Route coverage, frequency and weekend operation should be checked for the dates rather than assumed.

For each regular trip, compare:

  • the route from the building entrance to the station or collection point;
  • service times for both the outward and return journey;
  • what happens after an evening arrival or early departure;
  • luggage, companion and mobility requirements;
  • the cost of the entire journey, including parking or the final road connection;
  • a backup plan for a service change or a shifted work schedule.

If you will drive or hire a vehicle, confirm parking against the exact residence. The Terrace Unit 125 lists two secure basement bays, Unit 113 lists two parking bays, The Monroe lists secure garage parking and The Madison lists on-site parking. Ask about access arrangements and vehicle requirements before arrival.

Check accessibility door to door

Gautrain’s official information says stations and trains support wheelchair access, while every second Gautrain bus is equipped with a wheelchair ramp and bay. That is useful system information, not a guarantee that the whole route or a residence suits an individual guest.

Confirm every part of the journey: airport or road arrival, station entry, train, bus or transfer, building entrance, lifts or stairs, apartment layout and the return trip. Sandton Stay provides accommodation only and does not provide passenger transport or medical assistance.

Build a repeatable plan for corporate and longer stays

A one-off airport transfer and a five-day commute are different decisions. For a work assignment, list every recurring destination, the days it is used and the latest likely finish. A corporate booker should also ask the traveller whether they will carry equipment, travel with colleagues, use a vehicle on some days or need access outside the main commuting window.

Compare the transport plan alongside the apartment itself. The Terrace residences both have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two parking bays in Sandton Gate. The Monroe in Rosebank has two queen bedrooms, private laundry, high-speed Wi-Fi, backup power and secure garage parking. The Madison in Hurlingham has a dedicated workspace, two kitchens, backup power and on-site parking. These verified residence features do not replace route planning; they help complete the stay decision.

A useful transport brief: “We need a furnished residence from [arrival] to [departure] for [guest count]. Our regular destinations are [addresses] on [days and times]. We expect to use [Gautrain, vehicle or arranged transport] and need [parking, luggage or mobility details]. Please confirm the exact residence, availability, total price, parking and arrival arrangements.”

Use live transport information and a property-specific quote

Choose the residence only after the address, transport pattern and apartment features work together. Keep the official planner link, access instructions and host contact available offline for travel day. For accommodation, ask Sandton Stay to confirm the named residence, dates, fees, inclusions and terms in writing.

For the accommodation decision, continue with the corporate booking checklist, the Johannesburg residence comparison or the long-stay checklist.
