A short-stay furnished apartment can give a guest a kitchen, living area and residential routine for a visit measured in nights or weeks. The phrase “short stay” is not a universal booking rule, however. Each operator can set different minimum nights, prices, inclusions and cancellation terms. The safest comparison is therefore property-specific and written.
Begin with exact dates, guests and residence
Send the arrival date, departure date, number of adults and children, and the residence you want. If the schedule is still moving, identify the earliest arrival, latest departure and the date by which you need certainty. Do not assume that a general reply about “a Sandton apartment” reserves a particular unit.
Sandton Stay has four separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom residences across Sandton Gate, Rosebank and Hurlingham. All accept short- and long-stay enquiries, but availability must be confirmed for the named residence and dates.
Compare the total quote, not only the nightly rate
A starting nightly rate helps with an initial shortlist; it is not automatically the final amount. Ask for one written quote that shows the accommodation total and every applicable additional charge. Confirm the payment schedule and currency, too.
| Quote item | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Stay dates | Which nights and exact residence does the quote reserve? |
| Fees | Are cleaning, deposit, parking or other charges additional? |
| Utilities | What is included, and are there usage limits or exclusions? |
| Payment | What is due now, what is due later and what confirms the booking? |
| Changes | What applies to cancellation, early departure or extra nights? |
Sandton Stay currently publishes indicative starting points rather than a promise of the final price: R1,950 per night for either Terrace residence, R1,650 per night for The Monroe and R1,950 per night for The Madison. A confirmed quote should replace the indicative figure for your decision.
Make arrival practical before travel day
Ask for the confirmed check-in and check-out times, key or access procedure, the contact for arrival, and what to do if travel is delayed. If you are driving, confirm the number and location of parking bays and any vehicle or visitor-access process. If another guest will arrive first, ask whether the booking and access details allow it.
Building arrangements vary. For example, The Monroe lists self check-in and secure garage parking, while the Terrace residences list two parking bays each. These details should not be assumed for every property.
Check the facilities your short visit depends on
“Furnished” does not answer every practical question. Decide what the stay needs, then ask about the exact apartment. Useful checks include:
- bed sizes and the planned number of occupants;
- kitchen appliances, cookware and dining setup;
- laundry arrangements and whether they are private or shared;
- Wi-Fi setup and the kind of work or calls it must support;
- parking, lift or stair access and building-entry arrangements;
- cleaning during the stay, linen changes and supplied consumables;
- backup-power coverage if continuity matters to the visit.
The four residence pages record only verified features. The Terrace Unit 125 lists integrated appliances and fibre-ready connectivity. Unit 113 has a fitted kitchen, balcony and video tour. The Monroe lists high-speed Wi-Fi, private laundry and backup power. The Madison lists a workspace, two kitchens, Wi-Fi and backup power.
Choose the address around real destinations
Compare the exact property address with the places you will actually visit. Use a live route planner at the times you expect to travel. Avoid choosing from a generic promise that an area is “close to everything”: Johannesburg journey times change with the route, traffic and departure time.
The Sandton Stay Johannesburg apartment comparison explains the verified differences between the four homes and three locations without inventing commute times.
Read cancellation and extension terms together
Short trips can change. Ask what happens if you cancel, arrive late, leave early or request more nights. An extension is a new availability question until it is confirmed in writing; do not assume the apartment will remain open after the original departure date. If the visit may become longer, compare the quoted extension with the long-stay checklist.
Keep the final confirmation in one place
Before payment, make sure the written record names the residence, dates, occupants, total price and terms. Save the access instructions and host contact offline before travelling. This simple process makes a short stay easier to compare and easier to manage.
